Nitrile rubber is a synthetic rubber product

Nitrile rubber, with the technical name NBR, is a synthetic rubber product, based on acrylonitrile and Butadiene.

It has an amazing resistance to Oil, grease and solvents. For that reason, it is often used for hoses and gaskets. The higher the concentration of acrylonitrile, the better the oil resistance, but the lower the flexibility at low temperatures.

Nitrile rubber is known on a daily basis from the blue nitrile gloves used in the pharmaceutical industry. But nitrile rubber is much more than the blue gloves.

Fantastic properties characterize nitrile rubber

Nitrile rubber, or NBR, is characterized by having some amazing properties. In particular, the packaging properties must be emphasized, and the type of rubber can be approved as a food contact material (FKM) and in this connection is often blue, so that it is easy to recognize from the food.

In particular, the resistance to oil, grease and solvents differs from other synthetic rubber types.

There is actually no other type of rubber, with the same high resistance to these, as nitrile rubber.

NBR rubber is an elastic material and it can be used both indoors and outdoors. However, due to its poor resistance to Ozone and UV radiation, it is recommended primarily for indoor use. The durability of NBR rubber is quite long and especially if it is not exposed to sunlight.

Compared toNR rubber, NBR rubber is less flexible, but the advantages in chemical resistance are NR rubber superior.

NBR rubber has a high wear resistance and under the right conditions, the product lasts a very long time. It can be used from -15 – 90 ° C.

Applications for the strong NBR rubber

NBR rubber can be used for hoses, gaskets and string. It is especially used on drilling platforms for oil hoses, gaskets and cords. But it is also a versatile type of rubber used in, for example, the food industry and the cosmetics industry, where it is most often used as packaging.

Nitrile rubber adheres well to metal and can therefore be used for combination products where rubber is vulcanized on metal.
